Business VoIP

Business VoIP,
minus the
desk phones.

The same idea as the VoIP quotes you have been reading, with the hardware taken out. Australian carriage, one business number, and the phones your team already carries as the handsets.

01

Australian carriage

Acquired from a licensed carrier and resupplied by Seglo

02

No SIP handsets

The endpoints are the phones your team already carries

03

Unlimited under fair use

Standard Australian calls, SMS and MMS, no metering

01 / What VoIP usually arrives as

The technology was the easy part.

VoIP quotes tend to arrive as a hardware list: handsets per desk, an adaptor, sometimes a trunk you are expected to configure, and a portal with extensions, hunt groups and a dial plan to design before anyone can answer a call.

For a business with five people, most of that is a phone system pretending the year is 2005. The extensions describe desks nobody sits at.

You did not want a dial plan. You wanted the business number to ring somewhere useful.

02 / The same carriage, a different shape

Your team already owns the handsets.

Seglo Phone is a software platform with a carriage service resupplied to you: the underlying carriage is acquired from a licensed Australian carrier and provided under the Seglo brand. What changes is the endpoint. Instead of SIP sets on desks, the endpoints are up to five phones and tablets your team already carries.

One number rings all of them at once and the first person to answer takes the call, which is what a hunt group was trying to do.

Two-way SMS and MMS run on that same number, which a plain SIP trunk does not give you at all.

More on messaging on the business number

Compared to a trunk and handsets

Endpoints

Up to five signed-in phones or tablets. No desk sets, no ATAs.

Numbering

One Australian business number, ported in or newly issued.

Messaging

Two-way SMS and MMS on the same number, which a SIP trunk alone will not give you.

Billing

$149 setup, $79 a month, two devices included. No per-minute rate.

03 / What we will not promise

No uptime number, because we would be inventing it.

Call quality over the internet depends on the connection at both ends, and Seglo does not control yours. So there is no published uptime figure, no call-quality guarantee and no service-level commitment on this page, because any number here would be marketing rather than measurement.

What is committed to is in the Critical Information Summary and the terms: pricing, the emergency-call position, porting timeframes, and the fact that you can leave any month at no cost.

Read the Critical Information Summary

04 / What it does not do

If you were comparing to a PBX.

  • No SIP handsets, no ATAs, no bring-your-own-device provisioning.
  • No extensions and no dial plan. One number rings up to five signed-in devices.
  • No published uptime, call-quality or latency guarantee.
  • International calling is not included in the monthly charge and is not switched on by default.

Straight answers

The technical questions, answered plainly.

Is Seglo Phone a VoIP service?
Yes. It is a voice-over-IP service: it is delivered over the internet and needs a working connection and power to operate. Seglo is a software platform with a carriage service resupplied to you, where the underlying carriage is acquired from a licensed Australian carrier.
Do I need SIP handsets or a SIP trunk?
No. There are no desk handsets to buy and no trunk to configure. The endpoints are the iPhones, Androids and tablets your team already carries, signed in to the Seglo Phone app.
Can I bring my own SIP devices?
No. Seglo Phone is the app; it is not sold as a bring-your-own-device SIP service, and there is no provisioning of third-party handsets.
What are the call rates?
There are none for standard Australian use. Calls, SMS and MMS within Australia are included in the $79 monthly charge under fair use, with no per-minute or per-message metering. International calling is not included, is not enabled by default, and is charged at the rates Seglo publishes from time to time.
What about emergency calling?
000 and 112 are supported and need an active internet connection and power. In an outage, use a mobile or a fixed line. Emergency services see the service address registered against your number, not the caller's live location. 106 is handled separately and is not carried as a voice call by the app.
How does call quality compare to a mobile call?
It depends on the internet connection at both ends, which is the honest answer for any VoIP service. Seglo does not publish a call-quality or uptime guarantee.

Take the handsets out of the VoIP quote.

What it costs. $149 once to set up, then $79 a month including two devices. Each device after that is $29 a month, up to five. Prices exclude GST, which is shown as its own line on the invoice. Month to month, exit cost nothing, so the least you can spend is $228.

Emergency calls (000, 112, 106). 000 and 112 work from Seglo Phone, and they need power and a working internet connection. In an outage, use a mobile or a fixed line. Emergency services see the service address you have registered, not where the person calling is standing. Always keep another way to reach emergency services. 106 is handled separately and is not carried as a voice call by the app.

Conversation, not campaigns. Your number is for talking to your own customers. Bulk marketing goes out on the platform messaging channel instead, and a number that starts behaving like a broadcast is throttled. That is what keeps it deliverable.
