Virtual business number
An Australian
business number
with no line attached.
Take a new Australian number, or bring the one you already advertise. Either way it answers in an app rather than on a handset in a particular room.
New in a day or two
An Australian number, no transfer, no paperwork
Or bring yours
Porting in is included in the $149 setup
No line, no handset
It answers in an app on the phones you own
01 / What a number is tied to
Your number is currently tied to something.
A landline is tied to an address, so it stops working the day you move and it only ever rings in one room. A mobile is tied to a person, so the business is reachable exactly as often as that person is.
Both are fine until the thing they are tied to changes. Then you are reprinting signage, or explaining a new number to customers who have had the old one saved for years.
A business number should be tied to the business. Nothing else.
02 / Two ways to get one
Start clean, or bring the one on your signage.
A new Australian number is ready in a day or two. No transfer, no paperwork, nothing to cancel.
Bringing your existing number is included in the $149 setup charge, with no separate porting fee. Seglo checks the number can move before anything is charged, your current service keeps working until the moment it switches, and the check tells you up front if the number can move for calls but not for SMS.
A transfer typically takes three to ten business days. Your existing phone keeps working the whole time.
What comes with the number
Australian number
Issued through a licensed Australian carrier and resupplied by Seglo.
Calls
In and out, on up to five signed-in devices.
SMS and MMS
Two-way on the same number, subject to the number supporting SMS.
Service address
Registered against the number. It is what emergency services see.
More than one
One for each place you trade.
A business with two shops has two numbers, and each one belongs to the location its customers know. Add a number per location from the Phone Numbers page and they all arrive in the same app, so a person covering both does not carry two phones.
Each person picks which of your numbers ring their own device, and you can override that per number when someone has to be reachable on a particular line.
Additional numbers carry their own monthly charge, and you see the rate for a number before you take it.
03 / The address that still matters
One address you cannot leave blank.
A virtual number is not tied to a place for answering, but it is for emergencies. When someone calls 000 or 112 from the app, emergency services are given the service address registered against your number, not the caller’s live location.
Keep it up to date, tell the operator where you are if you are calling from somewhere else, and keep another way to reach emergency services at every location.
04 / What it does not do
The honest list.
- A virtual number needs an internet connection and power to answer. In an outage, use a mobile or a fixed line.
- Emergency services see the service address you registered, not where the caller is standing.
- Some existing numbers cannot be transferred at all, and some transfer for calls but not for SMS.
- International calling is not included in the monthly charge and is not switched on by default.
Straight answers
About an Australian virtual number.
- What makes a number virtual?
- There is no physical line running to a building and no handset the number belongs to. The number lives with Seglo and answers wherever your team is signed in.
- Is it a real Australian number?
- Yes. Seglo acquires the underlying carriage from a licensed Australian carrier and resupplies it under the Seglo brand, so it is an ordinary Australian number to anyone calling it.
- How fast can I have one?
- A new number is usually ready in a day or two. Bringing your existing number across takes longer, typically three to ten business days, because the industry transfer process involves your current provider.
- Can I have more than one number?
- Yes. A business with several locations can have a number for each, added from the Phone Numbers page in Seglo. They all arrive in the same app, so one person can answer more than one location, and each person chooses which of your numbers rings their own phone. Additional numbers carry their own monthly charge, shown when you select the number.
- Does it work if I move premises?
- The number is not tied to an address for the purpose of answering it, so moving does not interrupt anything. You must keep the registered service address up to date, because that is the address emergency services are given when someone calls 000 from the app.
- Can I take the number with me if I leave Seglo?
- Yes. Start the transfer out within thirty days of closing the account.
